The EDA group is involved in design and development of novel software solutions for Smart City.

Nowadays, ICT is recognized as a key player to enhance energy optimization in cities. Real-time information about environmental characteristics and energy consumption can be accessed from pervasive devices. Middleware technologies can help enabling the interoperability across heterogeneous data-sources, both hardware and software, and providing an abstract view of their functionalities. Furthermore, making district energy production and consumption information available using a natural, visual, and web-service oriented interface to client applications increases energy efficiency.

Hence, research activities of the EDA group in this area focus on distributed software infrastructure for: i) enabling the interoperability of energy production/consumption, environmental conditions and user feedback data; ii) exploiting effective visual and web-based interfaces to provide pervasive and real-time feedbacks about energy impact of user behaviors; iv) integrating building information models with real-time data.
